ESAD
A recent highlight has been Carbon Group completing the ESAD assessment. ESAD is the Single European Assessment Document used by the leading European chemical manufacturer to assess, measure and compare the quality, environmental, health & safety and security aspects of chemical distributers. It is supported by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) through the Responsible Care program.
ESAD is designed around the eight guiding principles of the Responsible Care/Distribution Programme of the International Council of Chemical Trade Associations (ICCTA). In one single assessment it is possible to:
a) measure a distributor's compliance with these guiding principles as part of the Responsible Care/Distribution Programme;
b) provide a common tool for suppliers of chemicals to evaluate the health, safety and environmental performance of their distributors according to their individual requirements.
ESAD assessments of distributors can only be carried out by accredited SQAS Distributor/ESAD assessors.
Carbon Group underwent assessment in four areas:
(i) Distributor Standard Activities (Di)
This reviews all activities associated with the distribution of chemicals including documentation, product integrity, product stewardship and transport
(ii) Site Assessment (S)
This reviews the distributor site focussing on quality, environmental and health & safety aspects.
(iii) Food, Cosmetic or/and Pharma (F)
This reviews the handling, storage, distribution and product stewardship of chlorinated solvents.
(iv) Chlorinated Solvents (Cs)
This reviews all activities specifically associated with the distribution into the food, cosmetic and pharma industries
Preparation work began in earnest for the audit at the beginning of 2011, with a project team assigned responsibility and an additional resource brought in to assist. The 2 day audit was conducted by the accredited ESAD assessor and Carbon Group achieved excellent results in all four areas of assessment, a result Carbon Group is extremely proud of.
